Dutch East Indies

French Indochina
  • In Laos in French Indochina, King Sisavangvong of Luang Phrabang dismissed Prime Minister Prince Ratanavongsa Phetsarath, as suggested by Charles De Gaulle; Prince Ratanavongsa Phetsarath would formally accept the dismissal on 15 Oct. Nationalists responded by forming a revolutionary government, which was intended to be led by the prince. ww2dbase [Laos | CPC]
  • Major General Douglas Gracey ordered his troops to march into the northern suburbs of Saigon, Cochinchina, French Indochina as a response to Viet Minh attacks on the previous night. Later in the day, Gracey and General Philippe Leclerc traveled to Singapore to attend an Allied conference; Gracey would receive additional reinforcements from Louis Mountbatten during the meeting, but he was also reminded that the preferred method for the situation in Saigon was to de-escalate via negotiations, not by force. ww2dbase [Philippe Leclerc | Saigon, Cochinchina | CPC]
Japan
  • Japanese communist leaders Kyuichi Tokuda and Yoshio Shiga were freed after spending 18 years in Fuchu Prison in Tokyo, Japan. Korea
  • Lieutenant General John Hodge announced that the US military government was the only legitimate government in Korea south of the 38th Parallel.
