- Submarine USS Thresher intercepted a 5,000-ton tanker approaching Maloelap Atoll. Thresher fired two torpedoes with one hit in the tanker's engine spaces. Large amounts of black smoke were seen coming from the tanker before Thresher had to go deep to avoid a sustained aerial depth charge attack. ww2dbase [Thresher | Maloelap | DS]
