Paris Peace Conference
Contributor: C. Peter Chen
ww2dbaseRepresentatives of United States, Soviet Union, United Kingdom, and France, plus several other smaller Allied powers, met at the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris, France between Jul and Oct 1946 to negotiate peace with defeated powers. The Allied powers allowed Italy, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Finland, all of which at one time allied with Germany but later in the war turned on Germany, to remain sovereign states and to join the United Nations. Italy's colonies in Africa were taken away, while borders were adjusted with many of the former Axis nations. Large sums of reparations were also demanded from the formerly Axis nations, a significant portion of which would go to the Soviet Union.
