ww2dbaseWinchester Model 1912 slide action pump shotguns were designed by Thomas Crosley Johnson (based on John Browning's Model 1893 and Model 1897 predecessor designs) and were manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company starting in Aug 1912. While Model 1893 weapons were more numerous in United States Army service during WW1, about 20,000 Model 1912 shotguns did become assigned to the front lines to provide close-range firepower for trench warfare. The United States military purchased an additional 80,000 examples during WW2, most of which were assigned to units fighting in the Pacific War. They remained in service through the Korean War and the early years of the Vietnam War. When production ceased in May 1964, nearly 2,000,000 examples had been produced.
