Country of OriginUnited Kingdom
TypeGrenade
Diameter50.000 mm
Length97.790 mm
Weight0.450 kg

Contributor:

ww2dbaseThe No. 70 hand grenade was a upgraded version of the predecessor No. 54 grenade of 1920s vintage. Designed in 1944, these new grenades were slightly lighter than their predecessors. They were sent to the British 14th Army in Burma for field testing. Although they were well received, it was concluded that they were generally no better than the No. 5/No. 36M "Mills Bomb" grenades already in use, thus the No. 70 grenades never saw wide production, and they were discontinued (after some further experimentation) after the war.
