Type 5 Na-To

CountryJapan
Primary RoleTank Destroyer

Contributor:

ww2dbaseThe Type 5 Na-To tank destroyer design began as a potential weapon to counter the heavily-armored American tanks. The design was completed in 1945, and an order for 200 examples was placed. The design made use of the chassis of the Type 4 Chi-So medium tracked carriers, and primary weapon was to be either the Type 5 75-millimeter anti-aircraft gun or the Type 4 75-millimeter tank gun. Lack of raw materials hindered production, thus when the Pacific War ended, only two units were built, and none of them saw action.

"All that silly talk about the advance of science and such leaves me cold. Give me peace and a retarded science."

Thomas Dodd, late 1945
