Grenadier Operational Timeline

7 Mar 1942 USS Grenadier attacked Japanese transport Asahisan Maru 82 miles northeast of Tokyo, Japan at 1500 hours, hitting her with four torpedoes but only one detonated; Asahisan Maru was damaged but was able to return to Yokohama, Japan for repairs.
1 May 1942 USS Grenadier, mistaking Soviet ship Angarstroy for a Japanese ship, sank her in the Pacific Ocean; 60 survived and were rescued by Japanese ship Kayo Maru.
8 May 1942 USS Grenadier sank Japanese freighter Taiyo Maru 140 miles southwest of Japan. Taiyo Maru was carrying geologists and oil experts to the Dutch East Indies to survey sites for oil production.
30 Jul 1942 USS Grenadier attacked Japanese oiler San Clemente Maru with two torpedoes 40 miles southwest of Truk, Caroline Islands; both torpedoes hit the ship but both failed to detonate.
29 Oct 1942 USS Grenadier deployed naval mines in the Tonkin Gulf.
22 Apr 1943 The US Submarine Grenadier was scuttled by her crew after suffering severe damage from Japanese air attack off Penang on the Malay Peninsula.
