Monterey Operational Timeline

17 Jun 1943 Monterey was commissioned into service.
3 Sep 1944 Task Group 12.5 consisting of carrier USS Monterey, cruisers USS Chester, USS Pensacola, USS Salt Lake City, and destroyers USS Cummings, USS Reid, and USS Dunlap conducted a bombardment of Japanese positions on Wake Island in the Pacific.
18 Dec 1944 Many ships from the United States Third Fleet, Task Force 38 sailed into Typhoon Cobra in the Philippine Sea. Three destroyers and 790 men were lost.
21 Jan 1945 USS Monterey arrived at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for an overhaul and repairs of battle and typhoon damage.
24 Mar 1945 USS Monterey departed Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after repairs.
16 Jan 1956 Monterey was decommissioned from service.

Hi There, does anyone remember a crewman named Samuel Brelsford? He was from Belfast originally, then joined the US Navy. i am his grandson in Australia, any help would be great.
