Dutch rail company NS to pay Holocaust reparations

28 Nov 2018

Germany occupied the Netherlands during the European War. During that period, most of the 100,000 Dutch Jews who lost their lives had been deported to concentration camps to the east by rail, and some of the trains were operated by NS. The company apologized in 2005, and on 28 Nov 2018 it announced that a commission would be formed to investigate best methods to pay individual reparations. In a written statement, NS said that its involvement in the deportations "is a black page in the history of our country and our company".
