The action between USS Borie and U-405 occurred the night of 1-2 Nov 1943 in the mid-Atlantic. This photo was taken 10 Nov 1943 at Norfolk, Virginia. Note Lieutenant Commander Hinton Smith at right, Commanding Officer of USS Goff who had just been awarded the Legion of Merit.
