Note the visible space between Kimberly’s two aft main guns. There should be a structure here equal in height to the gun turrets. On 26 Mar 1945, a Japanese airplane plunged into the top of this structure and obliterated it. On top of this structure was a 40mm gun mount that was firing continuously at the attacking airplane right up until the moment of impact.
