During the bomb run, a B-17 Group and a B-24 Group ended up over the same space when the higher B-17s dropped their fragmentation bombs. 5 B-24’s of the 567th Bomb Squadron were hit with 3 damaged and the 2 seen in the photo destroyed. 11 airmen were killed.
