VF-17 was first Navy squadron to see combat equipped with the F4U1A Corsair. Unit shot down
154 enemy aircraft during its deployment, New Georgia. Number 29 was flown by Ira Kepford and shows 16 kills on fuselage

The planes are from Navy Squadron VF-17, the "Jolly Rogers." THe plane in the foreground, number 29, is flown by top Navy corsair ace Ira Kepford (16 kills).
