This picture was taken at the mouth of the Piscataqua River at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor, near the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Notice the wall across the river on the left of the photograph with a small white structure atop it? That's Fort McClary, a Civil War era fort built on the Kittery, Maine side of the river. The white structure is a combination blockhouse and barracks building.
